Omaha, Rapid City, Denver – August 2, 2024
The Maȟpíya Lúta Wikȟóskalaka Tȟabškátapi basketball team capped off an impressive and hard-working summer with a remarkable record. Despite having only having three seniors and their returning all-state players spending most of the summer playing AAU, the team displayed resilience and skill across various tournaments and leagues.
The summer kicked off in Omaha at the Midwest Basketball Classic, where the young squad competed fiercely in the 17U division. The team managed to secure a 4-2 record, showcasing their depth and determination even without their star players or senior leadership.
Building on their success, Maȟpíya Lúta Wikȟóskalaka Tȟabškátapi participated in the Rapid City Stevens league, where they faced off against four larger double-A schools. Demonstrating their prowess on the court, they finished the summer league undefeated with an impressive 9-0 record.
The team participated in “A Day of Hoops” in Rapid City on June 15th, where they faced a tough all-star AAU squad but in the end Maȟpíya Lúta was too tough and walked away with the win.

The culmination of their summer efforts took place in Denver, where the team went undefeated at the Game Time Event Summer Classic. Once again, they played without their all-staters, who were busy competing in AAU tournaments in Chicago. The team’s hard work paid off, earning them the championship title.
Throughout the summer, the team’s dedication was evident, with the gym open Monday through Thursday. The majority of the squad attended daily, honing their skills and fostering a strong team spirit.
As the summer season concludes, anticipation is building for an exciting winter season. With their impressive summer performance, Maȟpíya Lúta Wikȟóskalaka Tȟabškátapi has set the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating and successful winter campaign.
