Students across Maȟpíya Lúta Schools made meaningful gains on the NWEA MAP Growth test last spring, with steady improvement in both reading and math from fall to spring. Here are the highlights:
Districtwide
- Reading at or above national average climbed from 38% to 42%
- Math at or above national average rose from 24% to 28%
Lakȟótiyapi Immersion Program
- 5th grade immersion students outscored non-immersion peers in math by 12 points, on a test given entirely in English
- Immersion students led non-immersion classmates in math in three of four middle school grades
- By 9th grade, former immersion students posted reading scores roughly 20 points above the national average
Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary
- Reading at or above national average more than doubled, from 19% to 44%
- Math at or above national average more than doubled, from 23% to 44%
- 2nd graders finished the year above the national average in both reading and math
Maȟpíya Lúta High School
- Reading climbed from 59% to 65% at or above national average
- Math rose 12 points, from 27% to 39%
- Students in grades 7 through 10 read at or above the national average in every grade
Maȟpíya Lúta Middle School
- Reading at or above national average rose from 41% to 46%
- Seventh and eighth graders both finished the year above average
- Roughly half of 6th through 8th graders met their individual midyear growth goals
Maȟpíya Lúta Elementary
- 67% of 4th graders met their individual math growth goals by midyear
- Kindergartners gained 11 points in math from fall to spring
Looking Ahead
Teachers are already building on these results, with a sharpened focus on math in grades 3 through 8 and continued investment in the reading strategies that are working. Families can support at home by reading together for twenty minutes a night in English or Lakȟótiyapi and weaving math into daily conversations around cooking, shopping, and everyday life.
