Multiple

The sounds of drums, songs, and laughter filled the Maȟpíya Lúta campus as the community came together for the second Tȟéča Wačhípi Okȟólakičhiye of the year. Dancers from Maȟpíya Lúta proudly represented their school and community, competing across multiple categories and showcasing both talent and cultural pride.

The event featured youth dancers from across the region, with Maȟpíya Lúta students earning top honors. In the youngest division, Minka earned 2nd place in K–2 Girls Fancy Shawl, while her brother Jozah took 1st place in K–2 Boys Grass.

In the 3–5 grade categories, Georgianna placed 3rd in Girls Jingle, and Logan also earned 3rd place in Boys Traditional.

The middle school dancers continued the strong showing: Bernice Brewer placed 3rd and Gia Weston 2nd in 6–8 Girls Jingle, while Blake Pourier won 1st place in 6–8 Boys Traditional.

At the high school level, Cora Lip earned 3rd place in 9–12 Girls Traditional, and Brighton Crow took 2nd place in 9–12 Boys Grass.

In addition to the dancers, the Maȟpíya Lúta Elementary Handgames Team, Maȟpíya Lúta 1, also competed with skill and spirit, finishing 3rd overall in the tournament.

The Tȟéča Wačhípi Okȟólakičhiye continues to strengthen cultural connections among youth, encouraging them to celebrate Lakȟóta traditions. We are very proud of all our students.
