
This past Wednesday, January 22nd, the Maȟpíya Lúta Middle School Wrestling Team took part in exhibition matches at Rockyford, marking a big step forward for the program. With guidance and encouragement from Coach Lane Pourier, the young wrestlers gave it their all on the mat, and their hard work paid off with some impressive results.
Among the standout performances, 5th grader Sienna held her ground and finished with two wins and one loss. In the 7th-grade division, Bryghton put up a strong fight and ended the day with a 1-2 record.
The 8th graders brought some exciting energy to the team, with Jada earning two wins and one loss, while Kyren secured one win and two losses in a tough bracket. The star of the day was Braylon, who dominated his matches to finish with a perfect 3-0 record.
Coach Lane Pourier was proud of the team’s efforts and shared how important it was to see these students take on something new. “This was a great opportunity for our wrestlers to test their skills and represent Maȟpíya Lúta. It’s exciting to think about their potential as they continue to grow in the sport.”
The exhibition matches were more than just about wins and losses. They showcased the courage and determination of these middle schoolers as they stepped out of their comfort zones and embraced the challenges of a new sport. With their strong start, it’s clear that the future of wrestling at Maȟpíya Lúta is looking bright.
