Maȟpíya Lúta Middle School had a full day of sports action on Wednesday, September 25th, with strong showings from football, cross country, and volleyball teams.
The football team kicked off their season with a resounding win at home, defeating rival Pine Ridge Middle School 60-8. Quarterback Hunter had an outstanding performance, scoring five touchdowns—three on the ground and two through the air. Hunter also contributed on defense as a safety. Braylon made key contributions as well, with several big runs and three forced fumbles, helping lead the defense to stifle Pine Ridge.
The Maȟpíya Lúta cross country team was also in action at Our Lady of Lourdes, where the 5th/6th grade girls once again took the team title. Gracie finished 1st, Kimi 2nd, Gia 4th, and Ruthie 12th, securing the victory. In the 5th/6th grade boys’ division, Diyari finished 16th, Ricky 17th, Alee 19th, Zaiden 35th, and Ernest 37th. In the 7th/8th grade boys’ race, Bryghton took 3rd place, and Jordan secured 9th.
Meanwhile, the volleyball team traveled to Batesland. The C-Team had a close match, winning in three sets (25-17, 20-25, 15-11). The B-Team claimed a dominant win, taking both sets 25-12 and 25-15. The A-Team faced tough competition, falling in two sets, 25-12. Additional stats for the volleyball games were not available at press time.
It was an action-packed day for Maȟpíya Lúta sports, showcasing the depth and talent of the school’s athletes across multiple events.
