Maȟpíya Lúta has completed one of the best seasons in program history, finishing the regular season with a 17-3 record and capturing the Lakota Nation Invitational championship. The team is currently ranked number one in the region and has advanced to face Eagle Butte in the SoDak 16 next Tuesday.
One of the big reasons for this success is junior Tokeya Big Crow. Throughout the season, Tokeya has continued to develop his game and provide important minutes for the team. His growth, effort, and willingness to do whatever is needed have helped strengthen the team on both ends of the floor.
For Tokeya, improvement has come through dedication and the support of his teammates.
“The amount of support and teamwork is what’s making me better,” Tokeya said. “I mostly focused on my offensive game this offseason and was a lot more dedicated.”

That dedication has paid off. Tokeya has had his best season yet, improving in nearly every statistical category while bringing energy and effort each time he steps onto the court. One of the biggest differences he has noticed in himself is his confidence.
“My confidence is way higher than what it was when I first got here,” he said.
Tokeya has embraced his role on the team and takes pride in contributing in whatever way is needed.
“I hope to keep the energy coming off the bench and keep playing my role to the best of my ability.”
As Maȟpíya Lúta prepares for its SoDak 16 matchup against Eagle Butte, Tokeya’s continued growth and commitment to the team remain an important part of the program’s success this season.
