Maȟpíya Lúta Girls Middle School A Team Overcomes Challenges to Secure 5th Place Finish

Multiple

The Maȟpíya Lúta Girls Middle School A Team wrapped up their season with an impressive 5th place finish, overcoming unique challenges along the way. With three of their 8th graders opting to play with the high school team instead of completing their final middle school season, the remaining players stepped up in a big way.

The tournament began with a dominant performance against Crazy Horse, where Maȟpíya Lúta secured a commanding 48-6 victory. Baylee led the charge with 22 points, setting the tone for the team’s competitive spirit.

In the second game, Maȟpíya Lúta faced a tough Pine Ridge squad, falling 58-49. Baylee once again led the team with 22 points but suffered an injury in the fourth quarter, forcing the team to play with just four players for a stretch. Despite the adversity, they fought hard and kept the game close.
Bouncing back in the third matchup, Maȟpíya Lúta defeated Loneman 54-23. Baylee had a dominant performance, scoring 25 points, while Lalia contributed with a key three-pointer to help seal the win.

The final game, a battle for 5th place, was a rematch against American Horse, a team that had narrowly defeated Maȟpíya Lúta earlier in the season. This time, the team turned the tables, earning a 49-43 victory. Baylee delivered her best scoring performance of the tournament with 28 points, leading Maȟpíya Lúta to a hard-fought win.

Special thanks go out to Coach Bert for his dedication and leadership in guiding the team through a challenging yet rewarding season.
Maȟpíya Lúta’s future looks bright, with talented players ready to continue building on this success.
